Consistently on every family vacation I have been on since being like 14, I have chosen not to do one of the activities offered in lieu of doing whatever the hell I want. In Paris my family saw Notre Dame while I sat in a cafe and drank black coffee and wrote a horrible short story. In Oslo they all biked while I vintage shopped. On our last trip to Michigan they all went on a walk and I watched Bones in bed. I am not saying the choices I make are ever necessarily better but like even if you do something stupid it is pretty freeing to exercise autonomy in majorly WE DO EVERYTHING TOGETHER type scenarios.
