Volver - Pedro Almodóvar

The juxtaposition of funny, campy, almost soap opera-esque moments juxtaposed against dark story that navigates intergenerational trauma, memory, and the afterlife. Almodóvar achieves a memorable depiction of village life in 2000s Spain. Deeply nostalgic for me. Penélope Cruz (hot take she deserved an Oscar for this one) and Carmen Maura are fantastic alongside a stellar ensemble cast.
