Dusty Springfield - “Spooky”

Recommended by Matt

One of my favorite tunes for summoning those blessed October/Halloween vibes from the stereo. Springfield’s breezy vocal gliding on top crisp, lounge-y instrumentation will leave you spellbound. As for the lyrics…Dusty, stop letting this goober waste your time. He ain’t spooky, he’s just shifty.

October where I am will begin with a weeklong heat wave, so this year I will be singing, “In the cool of the AC, when everything is getting kind of groovy.” Granted, this does subtract from the narrative as we lose the mystery of why someone’s calling up asking to go out to the movies…it’s 90 degrees outside, of course we’re going to frickin’ AMC 😅
