My Rec League Starter Pack

Saltblood by Francesca de Tores

This historical novel about female pirate Mary Reed shies away from clichées. It's historically extremely well researched, very detailed, and embraces the complexity of the period. I especially like how queerness is handled in a very "accurate to the period" manner. The character's fluidity around gender and bisexuality are never named as such, but are both respected and celebrated in the plot.

Smitten Kitchen Pumpkin Bread

It’s super pumpkin-y, delicious, and easy to make!

I think there are about 3-5 days a year where I don’t open the libby app 😂 she’s my best friend

Keeping a detailed digital database of recipes

Carrie and I have been using Airtable for this for the last 8 years. We have close to 200 recipes saved. We can only save the recipe once we have made it - so no wishful thinking, only tried and true dishes, usually with a note when/where we made it. I was going to make a specific salad this weekend for meeting my sister’s new boyfriend, only to read in the notes that I had made that exact salad for meeting her ex in 2023. Out of an abundance of caution, I pivoted and made a different salad 😂
