French Perle Groove White Latte Mugs, Set of 2
Perfectly sized mug for morning coffee or nightly ice cream. Reminiscent of Mimi’s Cafe. I imagine myself as a beautiful white Parisian Persian cat lapping milk from this mug with the Eiffel Tower glittering behind her.
Agent Nateur body (balm) ageless body treatment crème
A friend of mine who works in the health and beauty department at Erewhon gifted this to me. I am not a patron of erewhon, nor am I in a financial position to spend $100 on moisturizer. So my recommendation is to find a friend that can gift you this balm because I really do love it. The rosehip oil is fragrant and it is packed with vitamin E which is the best for healing skin conditions such as scarring and hyperpigmentation. I frequently use cooking grade grapeseed oil on my skin as it’s very high in vitamin E, but this is far more glamorous and smells a lot better too.
Amy Sedaris’ House Tour
New York Magazine’s profile on Amy Sedaris’ one bedroom Greenwich Village apartment has lived rent free (lol) in my mind since the time it was published in 2018. The home is the embodiment of kitsch. I am not only the same height as Amy, standing at 5’1, but we share a birthday on March 29th. Perhaps our small frame and bold nature is the root of the love of kitsch. Her good friend, designer Todd Oldham is featured in the video, and refers to renter’s renovations that will inevitably deny them of their security deposit back, as “personality fees.” The cozy apartment is dressed happily in bright colors and classic patterns. Think lime green and gingham. Maybe the most notable takeaway of this video for me over the years has been Amy’s free range rabbit Tina, male, who chews holes in everything. Amy’s other good friend Adam Selman, who she mentions helped a lot in the design process of the apartment, visits to patch the holes. This inspired me greatly when I still lived with my parents and our family cat Sasha would chew holes in my fabulous crushed velvet throw blanket from Target. The patches aren’t done discreetly. They’re obvious and kooky. Other great moments in this video are the craft room which she calls the “baby room,” where she leaves two baby shoes strewn about so people think she’s a mother, the fake resin food and beverage from Tokyo, and the hair dye sample swatch lampshade. In conclusion, Amy’s home is everything I aim to create for myself. It exudes charm and individuality while also appearing welcoming and cozy. In a moment where the internet is obsessed with the “Nancy Meyers aesthetic” and classic design styles(the yin to my yang,) what we may be failing to realize is that that sort of collected-over-time style requires deep appreciation for your things and where they came from! Heirlooms are great of course, but gifts from friends, wild ideas brought to fruition, and joyful repairs are at the center of authenticity.
