Dancer from the Dance by Andrew Holleran
at any given time, i am probably in the middle of a reread of dancer from the dance. other books come and go, even very useful and beautiful books that are worth a second look, but it's this one forever and always. split open my organs and you'll find most of these passages tattooed there in the creases.

The Copenhagen Trilogy by Tove Ditlevsen
utterly charming and enthralling, even at its darkest times. ditlevsen manages to make the most meta reflection as glittering as a fairy story. it brought back ironic memories of vesterbro where i stayed when i was in copenhagen - my experience was a quiet neighborhood for trendy young families and trendier singles, but in ditlevsen's vesterbro, the seedy beating heart of the city is still loud and clear, and it made me love the place even more.

Sleepless Nights by Elizabeth Hardwick
the first time i read this book (of many times, as it would turn out), i thought to myself that it would probably change me as a writer forever. i was right.

The Book of Disquiet by Fernando Pessoa
βIn the ordinary jumble of my literary drawer, I sometimes find texts I wrote ten, fifteen, or even more years ago. And many of them seem to me written by a stranger: I simply do not recognize myself in them. There was a person who wrote them, and it was I. I experienced them, but it was in another life, from which I just woke up, as if from someone else's dream.β
