Fraizer Price Watercolor box
This brass watercolor box is customizable, and includes a water canteen and a water container. I have mine loaded with Stoneground Gouache pans, which is also the best panned gouache on the market. This thing is highly functional AND beautiful...they used to sell it in the back of Watercolor Magazine in the 80's, but it has been reissued, thankfully!
Stoneground Gouache
Expensive, but creamy with good colors, no cracking. Worth the money if you use gouache pans.
The Vaster Wilds by Lauren Groff
A visceral adventure about a nameless girl escaping a disease riddled fort after a traumatic event, who learns to survive and essentially, rescue herself, in the wilderness. She discovers how to navigate a world succumbing to colonialism, eschewing all she knows though adaption, resilience, and her expansive mind...this book turns every trope of the "woman alone in the American Wilderness" on its head....a feminist fable about meaning, god, the body, and agency, beautifully written, you will fall into this world and despite all the graphic suffering, you won't want to leave.
Isola (Allegra Goodman)
A story of survival rooted in historical fact...our heroine is transformed from a wealthy landowner to a woman of the people after being abandoned on a rocky island in the New World (Canada) during France's colonial era. A great follow-up to the Vaster Wild. I'm clearly on a streak with these "woman in the wild" stories.
