reading one (1) poem a day
I have long wanted to be the kind of person who reads and sits with poetry. But sometimes it feels like there’s a steep barrier to entry. So i lowered the bar and try to read one poem a day. I like to read it once, sit with it. Then read it through a second time. Sometimes, I’ll read it aloud to myself. The one I posted above is titled “Storage” by Mary Oliver from “Felicity: Poems”. It resonated with me pretty deeply because I’ve been grappling with my things and getting rid of all sorts of stuff from my past lives to make way for present and future lives.

arnica cream
I bruise easy. Arnica cream is an amazing natural topical treatment for bruising, and smells really nice, because it’s literally extracted from a flowering herb. It also can be used for aches and pains in muscles and joints, sometimes I rub it on my lower back if I’m feeling especially tender. You can probably get this at your local health food store.

violet crumble
My dad had a friend from Tasmania visiting and after dinner a few Sundays ago, he busted out a bag of Violet Crumble for us to have for dessert. The mouthfeel on these candies is unreal. Like eating a piece of crunchy, chocolate covered, styrofoam or hard puffy insulation. I’m already planning to order more through World Market.

mending your things
And don’t let that thing that needs mending languish for too long, because it will start to take up mental space and space in your closet. I was gifted this very beautiful tote made out of a repurposed Kilim pillowcase or rug (origins unclear). It’s a prototype, and started to unravel a bit at one of the handles, as well as having a slight hole from the age of the textile. I sat down this morning with a cup of coffee and a podcast and picked out the perfect orange thread. It’s a slightly brighter shade of orange, which calls out the mending, because visible mending is beautiful and cool and radical. And voila, now I can use the tote! It’s the perfect size for a book and a journal and chapstick and my iPod and my keys an my sunglasses.
