My Rec League Starter Pack

Walcot House (Bath, UK)

We’re walking past the bar and sitting in the restaurant, the light-filled, greenhouse-y, dining space of my dreams. We’re immediately ordering the sourdough and three (!!!) flavored butters. From there, we roll into a burrata, fennel and blood orange salad, naturally. I order the best pork chop I’ve ever had in my life, you order a VERY handsome ribeye. And sides? Oh there’s sides. Try the honey roasted carrots with hazelnut dukkah and a gorgeous little gem Caesar on for size. And yeah, we’re getting dessert. See you on the other side of my very British, very perfect, lemon posset. Then, roll me out the door.

Black Rabbit Kitchen (Nanaimo, BC)

I am not exaggerating, I have not been able to stop thinking about their fried chicken with dill and hot honey since I ate an entire plate of it, and it’s been over a year. If charming restaurants with amazing merch in beautifully restored abandoned train stations are your thing, get on up to Nanaimo.

Nipotina (London, UK)

Italian Sunday Roast. [taps mic aggressively] HELLO DID YOU HEAR ME I SAID ITALIAN SUNDAY ROAST?

Manari Taverna

It’s a balmy (read: hot) day in Athens. We’re wearing linen shirts, obviously. We sit down and pop a bottle of Assyrtiko. We tuck in to tzatziki and fresh grilled bread, tirokafteri (a gorgeous, paprika-y feta dip), some sautéed spinach and lemon, and what I can only describe as the most perfect grilled lamb I’ve ever had. And as a send off, a bright and floral scoop of bergamot sorbet. We’re not brave enough to try the lamb head, but we’ll get it next time. There’s obviously a next time.
