Charlotte Perriand
Pioneering architect and designer, Charlotte Perriand, had an instinctual ability to cut right to the good stuff. She had to kick down the door into a world of male designers, originally rejected by Le Corbusier's studio with the note, "We don't embroider cushions here". Corbusier later righted the wrong when he personally saw her installation, Bar sur le toit (see below). She was an enthusiastic adventurer traveling the globe hiking and skiing, creating visionary spaces and objects, an independent woman and a legend!
Enzo Mari
Italian artist and designer Enzo Mari, built a practice around the idea that design should elevate the human experience rather than serve only the wealthy, or creation of wealth. He had a keen ability for a cutting and grumpy critique of the world. His Autoprogettazione series (below), was and is a masterpiece work and epitome of his ideals -- a set of strikingly wonderful designs with free instructions provided for building beautiful, sturdy furniture from readily available pre-cut lumber -- furniture for the people.
Fabien Cappello
A wonderful designer and wonderful human, Parisian born Fabien Cappello now operates his studio out of Guadalajara, MX. RAD met Fabien a few years back and released our first collection, the Canasta Series, last year. We love everything he does and will continue to rec more of his wonderful work.
Sam Klemick
Following 15 years in fashion, Sam came to furniture the old fashioned way...getting some chunks of raw lumber and teaching herself to turn, carve, sculpt, and build them into the beautiful objects she's known for. And of course an all around wonderful fun person to know and work with. See our first collaboration, the Post Collection, that we just launched together last week!
