This is an incredible website with endless videos and courses for making all different types of art. There are videos for adults, kids, and both. I love watching these with my kid. Also it’s free with our public library card log-in (shout out DC PUBLIC LIBRARIES!) Look at these cool masks we made!
La Vie en Watercolor
Jessie Kanelos is an American living in Paris and has a great substack that includes inspiring creative prompts, mostly focused on watercolor. I’m making my way through her 30-day New Years watercolor online course right now and loving it. I find having a prompt so important for getting me to make art at the end of a long day. Small fee to see all her Archives.
Museum kids rooms and art nights
I love having a kid because he’s a free pass into the kids rooms and classes at museums. These places are such treasures, tables of free art supplies and you can sit and craft for as long as you want. In DC, our faves are at the Hirshhorn and the Children’s Museum. But beyond kid rooms, lots of museums have art nights for adults. Generally with cocktails!
Go to a bar on a Monday
My favorite neighborhood wine bar hosts Silent Book Club once a month on Mondays. You can order a beverage or food and read or work on a creative project in silence but around other people. Phones are strongly discouraged. It’s a protected space to make art (and even better next to a bud!)
