papier d'arménie rose incense paper

this is the good stuff. an esteemed room refreshener. i've heard it said that the french have been using this in hotels for many moons, although i haven't encountered it in the wild. imparts the impression of old library books without the dusty must, softly scented of vanilla and powder. this rose variation was created by francis kurkdjian, of bacarrat rouge fame. it is delightful. tear off a sliver, fold into an accordian shape and ignite. i highly recommend leaving the room during its short burn time, as i've heard that the paper itself has been dipped in raw benzoin which is a known carcinogen in certain amounts. better safe than sorry, plus i prefer the experience of walking into the scent after it's had a chance to fill the room.

I recommend bringing a Kindle to a long show. Sometimes the best way to enjoy a spectacle is to let yourself drift in and out of it. I brought one to the Hollywood Bowl, and it made a sleepy spectacle feel perfect.

welcome to the first edition of the sandwich index. is there such thing as a bad sandwich? i’m not sure but we’re going to find out. turkey & provolone i’m cheap so i got mini but we continue balance: correct, not too much mayo or mustard. just right. meat to cheese ratio: on point. lettuce: liberal (even though it might kill me). construction: did not fall apart after the first bite, despite being doused in vinegar and oil (mike’s way. the way mike intended.) bite: the asiago cheese bread had a crispy toothiness to it that i enjoy. mess: none to speak of, although my chips did get a lil soggy after sitting in the residual oil. vibe: low. very low. every jersey mike’s location is cursed. overall score: 3.5/5 everyone say good job mike!

mendocino farms - peruvian steak sandwich

welcome back to the sandwich index. today i'm at mendocino farms, a california staple known for its salads and sandwiches. i came in to see what the farmer could do for me. peruvian steak sandwich balance: balance of value? not so much. the sandwich was puny, and it was almost $15 when it was all said and done. meat to cheese ratio: there was a fair amount of protein, but so little Oaxaca cheese that i was not even sure it was there. lettuce: there was basically no lettuce on the sandwich. construction: cute. it came on a buttered brioche potato roll situation. bite: it was juicy, like the tomatoes and herb aioli came together to create a smooth flurry of flavor. mess: a little messy, not gonna lie. vibe: uncertain. probably would not return for that. overall score: 2.5/5 maybe i should’ve gotten a salad.
