lemons and limes
the fastest and most reliable way to add freshness to any dish. a squeeze of lemon over simply blanched broccoli or buttered noodles is transformative. they also last seemingly forever in the back of your fridge's produce drawer.
Bungkus Bagus Sambal Goreng Chili Topping
The first time we tried this we thought it was too hot, so we thought we wouldn't use it. Boy were we wrong! Next thing you know, the jar is empty. So we bought more. And we will continue to buy it becaus it tastes bonkers delicious on everything. Rice bowls, soup, salads, simply cooked vegetables, maybe even ice cream (haven't tried it). It is just the perfect finishing touch on anything. When it's time to reorder we will be buying the big jar.
Seka Hills
This is hands down our favorite olive oil. The olives are estate grown and pressed on tribal land of the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation. It is incredibly delicious and versatile: tender and nuanced enough to act as a finishing oil yet sturdy enough to really cook with. The quintessential everyday oil. We never buy anything without checking the price per ounce. It is, in my opinion, the only way to determine whether something is a good value. On a per oz basis, this is comparable in price with oils that are a mere fraction of the quality. We buy it in bulk!
Organic European Style Plain Yogurt - Straus Family Creamery
This is our go-to yogurt. It has the best texture, flavor, and the milk comes from cows raised on pasture. Aside from being delicious, it's also cultured in metal vats instead of directly in the plastic cups themselves. Definitely makes it taste better, also (probably) reduces the amount of microplastics. This makes great sauces, acts as a sour cream alternative, and makes one fabulous granola bowl. Available locally in Santa Fe at Natural Grocer's, Whole Foods, and La Montañita Co-Op.
