Serving various pies at your wedding instead of cake
We chose multiple pies, maybe 6 different kinds from a local pie shop we loved. This was inspired by one of my best friends who also does not like cake. Why serve something you don't even like at your own wedding? I had no interest in trying a bunch of cake and then having a big creation I needed to be responsible for not ruining. We just had them delivered to the venue and it was a delightful surprise for everyone.
A Phone Station for Guests to Record Voice Notes
We used a company called After The Tone to set up a vintage telephone that records messages from guests. They left them throughout the reception and it is so funny to hear people get progressively more silly and some of them were so heartfelt I cried. It was super easy to set up, and I had the recordings pressed into a vinyl record to add to our collection. These were so fun to listen back to after the wedding, we even secretly left some for each other to hear. It feels really special to have physical recordings and messages in everyone's voice from that night that we'll have for life.
Ceremony & Reception At One Pretty Restaurant
Hear me out. I don't think this crowd thinks this way but every time I tell someone we had ours at a restaurant folks outside of NYC seem to generally forget that hosting a wedding isn't limited to church, barn, or city hall. Personally, I've never been to a wedding where I actually remember the food or the meal. I love food, I'm just much too amped up on love and champagne and dancing, so when it was my turn I wanted to outsource what I could to someone that knew what they were doing. We did the entire thing at Milk & Roses in Brooklyn. It minimized any traveling between ceremony and reception locations and they could take care of all the drinks and food so we could just pay them and move on with our life. It also allowed us to take pictures around the area relatively quickly and easily so we had more time to party. They have a beautiful garden area where we had the entire ceremony and then they flipped it into the reception. It was smooth as hell. We met with them twice to get clarity on run of events, layout, a loose plan b for rain, and confirm whether we wanted buffet style or served. It kind of makes it a one and done thing.
Vintage Rugs As A Runway
This was kinda Pinterest girl of me but I think it looked sick for an outdoor wedding, and we actually used these rugs after. They were entirely sourced from FB Marketplace or vintage markets.
