A friend turned me to Pinegrove when I asked her if there are any new bands she's listening to. They're not technically "new" but they remind of what it was like listening to Death Cab for Cutie for the first time.
Shupatto Itoya Bag
Not since Baggu have I felt enamored with a packable bag. The way this bag folds and flattens feels like an art form. It's unbelievably roomy and easy to sling on your shoulder. It goes with me every time I travel. Shupatto has a collaboration with the stationery store Itoya and the line features sea creature. I couldn't help myself with the flounder print and I got the squid one for my daughter.

Perfect Days (2023)
I know you specifically requested for books/articles but I highly recommend squeezing in this movie before you leave for Japan. It's my favorite movie of all time. It's a slice of life movie about a Tokyo toilet cleaner. If you'll be spending time in Tokyo, this in invitation to see the slower, hidden aspects of the city.
