United Nude Sandals

I just really don’t need any more basic bitch boring shoes at this stage of my life. United Nude is probably my favorite summer shoe brand - I own four pairs on rotation, all in loud, brash colors with fantastically sculpted soles. Who cares if lime green “goes” with my outfit? What does that even mean in a world like ours. I particularly like the Delta Tongs (like a futuristic geta sandal) and the sadly discontinued Wa Lo sandals, but the Delta Runs are good too, there are so many other gems. This is my kind of architectural shoe (aka it doesn’t need to be black). They switch around colors every season so you really need to pounce on a colorway you like.

Fingersmith

This one is just delicious fun. Twists and turns and scheming and secrets and longing. The film The Handmaiden is loosely based on this although it actually took out a few of the surprise twists; must have been too much for one movie.

CamperLab Oruga Up Sandals

I’m always on the hunt for interesting-yet-comfortable sandals. When I’m not wearing my United Nudes I also enjoy the offerings of CamperLab, especially the Oruga Up line. The pebbled soles are cool looking and some of them also have two shoes that go together but are slightly different (Twins line). I’m not a huge fan of regular bubbly Campers but CamperLab is more interesting and worth exploring. They also have some cool western-looking boots but I don’t own them so I’ll reserve judgement on actual fit.

Chichu Art Museum, Naoshima Island

OK go with me. This is an UNDERGROUND museum that uses no artificial light. There are only 3 artists displayed in the museum and two of them are Claude Monet and James Turrell. They make you put on little white booties to go into the Monet room - the only place in the world where you will see a Waterlilies painting lit by natural light. The building is designed by Tadao Ando. I know, it takes forever to get there from Tokyo. Just go.
