Trash! A Garbageman’s Story
A manifesto-love letter, for work and against work, vive le trash!

Kitchen Confidential (audiobook version)
I explain it to people this way: having worked in a few kitchens, I cannot adequately describe to you the sounds, the rhythm, the vibrations. You have to actually hear it in order to understand it. Anthony Bourdain was not meant to live on a flat page. That’s why we love watching him on our screens. I listen to his bloody descriptions and embarrassing failures and dipshit choices whenever I need to remember what it feels like to write a sentence that matters.

A Long Game (audiobook version)
I prefer to listen to craft books, probably because I love school and it feels like listening to a lecture, only without going into debt. I have listened to this one three times. I’m obsessed with her voice. It sounds like she doesn’t give a fuck (complimentary). She isn’t reading to you, she’s talking to you. I imagine her raspy voice floating through the air as we lounge poolside, a drink in my hand and a cigarette in hers. I have no idea if she actually smokes. This is a fiction of mine inspired by her phenomenal advice on writing fiction.

Any of Nora Ephron’s Audiobooks that She Actually Narrates
But especially whichever book has the essay about Helen Gurley Brown.
