Are You Mad at Me? - Meg Josephson
Why you become the person you are and what survival sometimes looks like. How to stop battling yourself even when you see the "negative" parts that you want to get rid of and restructure the narrative that you've built for yourself. Although I think everyone can get a lot from this, I highly recommend if you come from a particularly chaotic background. I highly recommend the audio book for this one which is narrated by the author. She speaks her words so naturally while being very comforting.
Intermezzo - Sally Rooney
Grappling with grief of a loved one, with what once was and what could have been. Battling the persona we've given ourselves and what society has given us vs who we really are. Spoiler: Horny
The Sane Society - Erich Fromm
It seems like repressing ones self and apathy are some of the greatest recipes to succeed in today's world. The less you regard others and the more you numb yourself, the more advantageous life becomes. A psychoanalysis published in 1990 that feels even more relevant now. Is our society as a collective insane? And how do become more sane?
How to Do Nothing - Jenny Odell
Title does a lot of the work here. Watch the sunset, listen to the birds, buy shelled peanuts for crows, think about how cool trees are. Corporations have known for a long time how valuable our attention is and the greatest act of resistance is to slow down and be as "useless" as possible.
