North Woods
One of the best books I've ever read.
Looking up toys from your childhood on eBay
Looking for a hit of extreme nostalgia and whimsy? Look up toys that you loved as a child on eBay. For me, it was the 90s Littlest Pet Shop toys. Nothing plunges me headfirst into a churning sea of nostalgia quite like looking through all the listings with the pink-and-purple-striped awning of my youth.
Anything and everything by Phoebe Wahl
Love her art, her prints, her books. My 5-year-old daughter particularly loves her book, Little Witch Hazel, and I love it, too, for its luscious prose and atmospheric illustrations.
Who Wet My Pants?
Every time I have a hard writing day as a children's book author and wonder if it's all for naught, I read this with my two kids to remind myself that no, it isn't for naught. They know it by heart and scream with pleasure when they get to shout out: WHO WET MY PANTS? The story is funny and sweet, and the bear's friends are so supportive. This is a joy to read aloud and a good reminder that great stories have a great impact.
