making something functional beautiful just because
exhibit a: stacking your firewood into a holzhausen! this past winter, we bought a little home on the coast of maine & installed a woodstove. when our first delivery of wood arrived mid-december (not necessarily recommended lol but unavoidable in our situation), we made the most of it by pouring tiny cups of amaro (to warm our bones), playing wintery music on our little portable speaker (to warm our spirits) and learning a fun new way to stack fire wood into a little “wood house” design! i love making ordinary functional objects a little bit nicer to look at <3
storing your store-bought herb bunches in water (especially cilantro!)
i’ve been storing herbs this way in my fridge for years; i thought this was common knowledge but i recently had someone tell me they’d never heard of this, so i thought i’d share: storing bundles of fresh herbs in a cup of water (like a cute lil bouquet in a vase!)will help extend the life of the herb by a lot! my cilantro used to wilt soooo quickly, and now it can last up to 2 weeks (just change out for fresh water every couple of days!)
a plum, tomato, burrata, chile, and cilantro salad (with pickled red onions!)
i just tried this salad recipe from jess damuck’s cookbook ‘salad freak’ and holyyyy shit this salad is so so good. the combo of the pickled red onion with the salty burrata and sweet plum is devine. perfect on a hot summer day with an iced drink!
