Short interview where Jason Segel discusses a complex moment in his career. Good art is not about idiosyncratic self expression, or at least not centrally about idiosyncratic self expression. But it is often about connection, and the idiosyncratic and quixotic are potentially powerful and useful tools for connecting. I’m saying don’t throw out all of the music you wrote for that lavish Dracula puppet musical.
Fake TV Shows from 30 Rock on Nestflix
The folks at Nestflix have a bunch of them: The Jackie Jorp-Jomp story, “God Cop”, “The Rural Juror”, the works. I’d like to say I haven’t been just clicking on these one by one and laughing for the last 12 minutes but I respect you too much to tell you lies.
“David Lynch’s SUPERBOY” by Dan Schkade
A very unofficial comic in two Reddit posts: Part 1 Part 2 It captures everything it sets out to capture so well. It’s beautiful and you have to click two separate links to see it all. Dan Schkade is the current artist working on the Flash Gordon newspaper strip and you can kinda see why he’s such a good fit for it.
When the Gremlins Take Over the Theater
If you rented “Gremlins 2” on VHS, there was a special scene in the movie, not shown in theaters, where the Gremlins infested your VCR and John Wayne had to chase them away. Halfway through the novelization of the movie, the Brain Gremlin locks the author in the bathroom and starts typing a manifesto. In Chapter 6 of Don Quixote, while burning Don Quixote’s books his neighbors come across La Galatea, by Miguel de Cervantes. They don’t burn it but I think they comment that Cervantes should stick to poetry. In conclusion, you should let the Tingler loose in the theater whenever you can, and you should watch “Gremlins 2”
