Jumping Spiders Will Cure Your Arachnophobia
If you're scared of spiders (or simply going through a tough time), I highly recommend making eye contact with a Jumping Spider. Because yes, you can lock eyes with these guys. Can't find one? Watch this video about how smart and amazing they are instead.
Monstrilio by Gerardo Sámano Córdova
People will tell you this is a vampire novel. They are wrong. People will also tell you this is a meditation on grief. That is only the half of it.
Tender Is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica
"Come with me as I clock in for my job at a slaughterhouse that processes human beings," basically. Prose makes an extremely tough-to-swallow read extremely binge-able. Apologies for the awful puns. You'll think "I'll never read this again" throughout and then the ending hits you like a Mack truck and you know you'll have to come back at some point. Truly fantastic.
iNaturalist App & Website
"Sexy Species Near You!" or "Deuxmoi for plants and animals" We love a primary source! iNaturalist is basically a user-led image database/map of realtime flora and fauna sightings. This is how I found out Green Wood Cemetery has a huge colony of skunks but no bats (and Prospect Park is crawling with bats but no Skunks??).
