My Rec League Starter Pack

shirley temples

ripping ‘em back to back this toasty july 4th weekend. don’t let the kids monopolize this perfect bev 🍒

methuselah

methuselah is the oldest tree on earth, which makes its name very fitting. located in the inyo national forest, she is a great basin bristlecone pine. when i attempted to hike the john muir trail a few years ago, the thing i was most excited to see were the bristle cone pines. i mean, they have witnessed so much of human history and they have survived so long because of the harsh conditions they live in, not despite them. what could be more poetic? well i didn’t make it to inyo because some achilles issues and an irrational fear of black bears forced me off the trail in mammoth 🤪, but i am itching to get back to the sierra to complete my quest. this tree was nominated by @Zane who does not know how to use rec league yet but reminded me that this is indeed at the tippy top of my superlative tree bucket list

washcloth-a-day

Recently turned my bathroom into a certified Spa™️ for under $20 by snagging a 24-pack of cozy soft washcloths so now I can use a different one (or two!) on my face every day. So luxe! Amazing for fighting acne! So much better for the earth than disposable face towels! I wash them separately on the small setting so that upkeep is water-minimal but you could just as easily toss them in with any load and not increase your laundry burden one bit. My only regret is not doing this sooner :’)

mcdonald’s filet-o-fish

the filet-o-fish is my roman empire. i am always thinking of Her. turn your nose up, i don’t care! plenty of foods have made me sick in this life, but never miss fish. she’s perfectly salty, with a touch of sweetness. my grandma used to take us to mcdonald’s almost every saturday night and this is the only thing i ever ordered. the origins of my devotion stem from my mom’s impossible-to-describe philosophy about keeping kosher which led her to focus on fish instead of a burger or nuggets. her introduction got me hooked. if you’re inclined to judge but have never sampled, do yourself a favor and just try it first 🎣 this NYT article offers another lovely perspective in favor of my queen
