Hendy Woods State Park

Gorgeous park and campground tucked back in the Anderson Valley. You might drive past and never know it's there, but you'd be missing out on a kid-friendly campground and park with lots of stumps and logs to play in, a great swimming hole, and the lore of Petrov Zailenko, the Hendy Hermit, which you can learn about while exploring the remnants of his "hermit huts" he built and lived in once upon a time. HMU if you want my recs for the best campsites there ;)

If you are able bodied and not wrangling tiny humans into a car by yourself which may make this a near-impossible ask, be a good human and return your shopping cart. This quote has stayed with me for years via @joanna goddard /Cup of Jo: "Says S. on four things: “I read an obituary once that said, ‘In lieu of flowers, please return your shopping carts to the store, don’t leave them all over the parking lot – that drove Larry crazy and it was his one wish for humanity.'” To this day, when I (always) return my cart, I think to myself, "For Larry..."
