My Rec League Starter Pack

Grandmother’s China

Probably one of the most frequently passed over things these days. Full sets of fine china that was once used & covered and collected by your grandparents in celebration of their marriage, only to be discarded without a thought or place to store it generations later. I almost made the same mistake. This is actually my great grandparents wedding china, such a treasure. I have my grandparents set already, didn’t need two and no one else in my family wanted it. So I decided to hang onto it in my 20s. Now, I am so thankful that I did. It’s my favorite pattern now and proudly displayed next to my grandparents, and my own 🤎 do you have heirloom china?

Cast Iron Skillet

An old cast iron skillet is always a good find, even if it’s in need of some TLC. The workhorse of the kitchen, a great example of something that’s better old than new. The walls are actually thinner, lighter overall and well seasoned if you’re lucky. 🍳 this is my favorite vintage pan that I purchased at Scott’s in Atlamta from the best cast iron vendor, a Wapak

Splattered Family Recipe Cards

I know it may be easier or more organized to store your recipes in a digital way these days, but there’s nothing quite like a handwritten recipe. There’s a connection with it, from the person through the food, to you. In their handwriting, with ingredients splattered across it from years of making. A signature dish you associate with that person, memories made together making or enjoying it. I always say my stack of family recipe cards that I inherited is my most treasured family heirloom.

Mast General Store

Mast General Store in Valle Crucis NC is truly a treasure from back in time. An old general store, perfectly preserved seemingly in the middle of nowhere and since 1883. An old post office inside, creaky wooden floors, a potbelly cast iron stove and a cooler of bottled sodas. Right down the way is also the Mast Annex, which we call the Barrel Candy Store, fill your basket with old penny candy (candy necklaces our personal favorite choice as kids).
