Aqualien Substack
The one and only water intelligence publication. Nice!
āThe Beach Bookā by Gloria Steinem
Gloria Steinem, whose peculiar The Beach Book appeared in 1963: an illustrated collection made for reading between swims, naps and sandcastlesāand a defence of leisure before leisure became another thing to optimise. Her āask the turtleā lesson also reminds us to value the women whose water-carrying work goes unseen.
Water Water On the Wall, Youāre the Fairest of Them All by Roni Horn
Because Roni Horn turns water into philosophy, mood, and obsession. Itās one of those rare books that feels both intellectually sharp and beautiful enough to keep forever.
The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway
The sea isnāt the setting. Itās the other main character ā beautiful, brutal, generous, indifferent. Hemingway at his most elemental.
