The Calculation of Volume (Book 1)
This little book traveled in my bag with me all month, even backpacking. This is book 1 of 8 (I know, hear me out), but it’s less than 200 pages and reads like a meditation on noticing your surroundings, with a premise similar to the movie Groundhog Day. The books have been translated from Danish, and I will say I can see a through line between this book and the Norwegian films The Worst Person in the World or Sentimental Value. They share a tone of melancholic examination of life’s smaller moments. If you are needing a break from over stimulation, I highly recommend. I already bought book 2.
