The Transit of Venus (Shirley Hazzard)
I’m in my Novels phase of reading life and this one was probably what got me started? The writing is refreshingly perfect, the story is shocking and beautiful, great book to read on a plane.
Lives of the Saints (Nancy Lemann)
This book was so funny and sad and surprising, and it felt like walking around New Orleans, a city that I don’t particularly love to be in — but you can tell she really, really loves her city.
Freedom (Jonathan Franzen)
I love this book! I can’t think of many writers who are so funny and right about conservation and nature and climate change and habitat loss and how that impacts being a human.
Tithonia (Mexican sunflower)
I grow this from seed every year now in my garden and it blooms for months and months, the deer leave it alone, the hummingbirds love it, and it’s big and messy and such a bright saturated orange that pictures never capture it! Easiest and best flowering annual!
