A library date stamper
I have a lot of notebooks for work, journaling, planning, all sorts of things. There are few better ways to start the day than with a deep and satisfying “cha-chunk” at the top of the page.
Hey email!
I absolutely hate Gmail and for the longest time checking my email was a huge source of anxiety and it just kept getting full of garbage. Hey email is built for how people actually use email and it just rules. I feel full ownership of my mail now. It’s paid, but there’s a month free trial. Incredibly worthwhile for something I use all the time.
Owning your data and divesting from the cloud
So much of our data and our lives are wrapped up in a few big companies. They charge random fees, constantly suffer security breaches, and now are often scraping your data for LLM training. It’s relatively easy to build your own home lab! Host your tools at home, host your own version of Dropbox or Google Photos (Immich), your own notes app (Obsidian), your read-later app (Wallabag), your own video streaming service (jellyfin) and so much more. A Synology NAS is an accessible starting point, but you can make a home lab with any old computer.
