Fishfest 2026
We’ve been doing a late summer trip to this area for years and always end it with a visit to Fish Fest, an annual summer festival in Point Arena. Think hippies, surfers, local ag workers all hanging out listening to jam bands and eating grilled seafood in the most beautiful cove and surf spot. It’s the best. In general, highly recommend finding out if a local festival or parade is taking place whenever you visit a new place is my takeaway.
"Calypso" Flag
When my husband and I bought our sailboat, as a live aboard/adventure vehicle, this flag was tucked into a cupboard in the galley. I quickly figured out it was the house flag of the Calypso, Jacques Cousteau’s research vessel. We flew it til it was ragged and carry its tattered shreds with us as our journey takes us to land.
huckleberries
Mid-summer huckleberry picking on the coast. Maybe a cow wanders by to grab a lil snack. Filling yogurt containers with tiny purple-y blue beads of juicy berries. And of course, in the vein of Blueberries for Sal, half the berries get eaten before they even hit the bottom of the pail.
Izakaya Gama
An extremely good izakaya in a tiny town on the Northern California coast.
