Nightshift
I've recommended this to at least a dozen people in the last year. A slow, dreamy, hypnotic portrait of the night shift at a hotel circa 1981. The rare film that perfectly captures nighttime.
Miss America (Mary Margaret O'Hara)
Probably one of my favorite albums. Listening to this for the first time felt the same as listening to Patti Smith's Horses for the first time. Rock music feels like a Gertude Stein poem.
Duplex (Kathryn Davis)
I barely understood anything that happened in this book I read five years ago but I still think about it several times a week. As close as literature gets to feeling Lynchian.
Music for 18 Musicians (Steve Reich)
Literally my favorite piece of recorded music ever. Absolutely transcendent.
